Ventoy Linux GUI

Post by Electroguard »

Perhaps of interest to some linux Annex users is the fact that the latest Ventoy (bootable USB multi-ISO menu) now has a nice linux GUI capability.

A friend had trouble finding the Ventoy linux GUI instructions because they have been buried by another Ventoy update.
So I did some instructions for him, which I'll post here in case it may also be useful for others.
It assumes using Thunar file manager on MX Linux, but should be easily relevent to other flavours…
  • Right-click the downloaded "ventoy-1.0.37-linux.tar.gz" file and select "Extract Here"
Right-click from inside the extracted folder and select "Open Terminal Here"
Copy and paste "sudo sh VentoyWeb.sh" into the terminal and press Enter, then enter your root password.
It should say that the Ventoy server is running, so now you can copy and paste the shown url into the browser.
    http://127.0.0.1:24680
If you don't have a Ventoy usb stick already plugged in, you will need to refresh the browser for it to see it, then select "Update" to update it.
His response made the effort worthwhile...
Yippee, it worked perfectly. Thank you very much for the info

A new version of Ventoy is available with a gui installer like the windows version (instead of browser based).
Ventoy is handy for booting ISO images such as a previously installed linux snapshot which includes multi-platform Annex.

Download and extract the linux tar, run the appropriate extracted file in terminal.
Later, create desktop launcher for it if wished.
