Cheap ESP32's

Post by Electroguard »

Has anyone used these (or similar) ESP32 S2's before ?
€ 3,19 free shipping S2 Mini V1.0.0 WIFI IOT Board based ESP32-S2FN4R2 ESP32-S2 4MB FLASH 2MB PSRAM

They are cheap, apparently 2Mb PS2 RAM, and supposedly compatible with Wemos D1 mini addons.
But was about to order a bunch of them, then noticed that the pinout didn't look correct compared to others... and for several reasons.
At the very least it looks like the pins may be reversed, but maybe that could be corrected by fitting the wemos addons upside down!
Does anybody have any hands-on experience of the modules?

No experience of the board but I was looking for the UART chip and not finding it.
Checked, and ESP32-S2 has 2 UART's on chip. Neat!

Another advantage is that USB 'C' is less fragile than microSD (cos cannot be inserted the wrong way round).
And seems to have a user button as well as reset.
Most important feature for me though is wemos D1 footprint capability cos of all the cheap add-ons that are available.
But they are cheap enough, so I guess I'll just risk a few anyway... considering that chinese prices are like anti-gravity, they go up not down!

Uh oh... just ordered 5, and paid for 10 day delivery!
Can't even use them as ornaments, cos am allergic to pink.
I've got a hammer though, so perhaps can have 5 sessions of smashing relaxation therapy.

I received some of them last week and I confirm that annex runs on these chips, obviously another version expressly compiled for this chipset. I didn't had any particular chance to test them but annex seems to work properly. The big advantage is that with the development environment is possible to share practically the same source code, managing only the differences. I was able to compile and verify that annex runs on the esp32, esp32-c3, esp32-s2 and the esp32 esp32-s3. The problem is that I must modify the flashing utility to take into account all these variants. I'm actually on holiday but I hope to release something in next weeks

Just received three of these boards today; very neat little things.
I like the way they expose more of the IO pins than the ESP8266 Minis.
(I'd go with purple rather than pink :¬)
