Here's a little ESP device which has onboard IR LED + IR receiver, allowing it to be used (with an appropriate Annex IR script) for receiving signals from IR remote controls, or transmitting saved IR signals to control TVs etc, or using 2 or more to create wifi IR extenders capable of receiving IR signals from a IR remote controller at any location and controlling IR equipment at a any other location.
So for example: a remote controller could be used from different locations to mute a central music player, or switch CCTV cam, etc.

Re: ESP IR Transmitter/Receiver module
Even more interesting (particularly for esp-01 addicts) is that it is called an esp-01M, which seems to be the high-temperature esp8285 - and it is using gpio4 and 14 for the IR TX and IR RX, plus has gpio0 for flashing, BUT... the screen-printing shows it to have many more additional gpio's available, including ADC analog.
Unfortunately it is only 1Mb, but that can achieve plenty.
