Scan for IP and MAC addresses

Post by Hendrix »

Is there a way to scan my network for all connected devices and their IP (and MAC-) addresses?
I know my router can do this, but is it also possible to do this with Annex?

You can use the Annex PING instruction to sequence through all 1 to 255 node IP addresses on that subnet.
Some devices (particularly routers) may be deliberately configured not to respond to pings, so not all nodes will necessarily respond.
The router already knows every device connected to its subnet else unknown devices would be ignored and not recognised on its subnet.

Thanks,
I have no ESP8266 to try today, but will "Ping" return a MAC-address?

No, Annex PING acts like your computers version of Ping, which reports how long it takes for a reply to be returned from the target IP, and therefore if it is reachable.

Have you considered something like "angry IP scanner" free utility for a PC or I also like "Fing" for my android phone.
Both will show you all the connected devices and the IP's, etc.

cheers

I just would like to do it with Annex :)
But thanks, "angry IP scanner" works perfectly.
